Fiber Internet Options
Fiber internet, also is known as fiber to the home, is the latest thing in internet service. A big part of the internet infrastructure has been using fibre optic cables for a long time now. However, only relatively recently is the service being given to consumers, by taking it all the way to people’s homes. What is the big deal regarding this type of service? The answer is simple; the speed of fiber internet is nothing like we have seen before. We are talking about very high Megabit and even Gigabit level bandwidth.
Fibre optic technology uses fibre made out glass or plastic and instead of transmitting electrical current, such as copper wires, it uses light to transmit information.
This means the signal does not get weaker as it travels great distances. The result of this is virtually a seamless connection and almost instant download speeds. Gone are the days of waiting for several minutes for a movie or software to download. Of course, it goes without saying that the cost of fiber internet will also be higher.
Fiber Internet Providers
However, availability is still restricted to a few places, mostly cities at this point in time. The three main players of this service are Google Fiber, AT&T, and Verizon. Google Fibre was one of the first to offer this service. In order to find fiber internet options, the first step would be to see if it is available in your specific area. The reason for this is even in cities where it is available, it is only available in certain areas. Service packages will obviously be different between companies, but one thing that stays the same is that this technology is “Future Proof”. This means it will be able to support even faster speeds that may happen in the distant future.
